Follow Friday #3

I have no idea what happened to March. It just disappeared. Poof. Gone. Goodbye March, hello to April and on to another Follow Friday question.

Q: Have you ever bought a book BECAUSE of a bad review?

No. Unless the things that the reviewer dislikes in the book are things that I like. I like to read a few different reviews of a book before purchasing it as it just goes to show that everyone's tastes are different. But if the reviews were overwhelmingly bad, and there seemed to be no redeeming qualities at all in the book then I would definitely not buy it.

  1. Hi how are you?

I was looking through your blog, and I found it interesting, and inspiring to me, so I thought why not post a comment.

I have blogs also obviously, and would like to invite you to become my blog friend.

I mostly post about the California experience through the perspective of personal writings, and my art.

Maybe you can become my friend, and follow, and I can also follow you, if that is okay.

Well I hope to hear from you soon… :)

  2. I'm the exact same way! Other people's reviews aren't the ONLY way I choose a book, but if the majority of people are saying a book is horrible and I'm not pulled in by its summary then I'll have to pass as well.

  3. I'm the opposite -- I like books that elicit passionate responses, whether it's of love or of hate. So when a bunch of my reviewer friends hate a book? It makes me want to read it to see if it's really THAT bad :)

  4. Jess strikes again! She keeps taking the words out of my mouth! I love seeing a bunch of passionate 1-star reviews for a book, especially one I've been anticipating, because if I end up loving it it can become a great subject of debate!

  6. Great post! I feel the same ... I mean if a book has that many bad reviews why bother? I do make exceptions however if a book is getting a lot of bad reviews but is also immensely popular. Then I buckle, if nothing else so I can form my own opinion and talk to people about it.

  7. I totally agree! I don't have the money to spend on books that I may or may not end up liking! If I did really want to read it before I heard the bad reviews I would probably just end up taking it out of the library instead :)

    Happy reading!

  8. I like your answer. But I can tell you, if I like the book after he got so many bad reviews I still buy it. Because I want to see it for my self :D

  10. Yeah, I think it really depends on the details of the review(s), it's hard to make blanket statements :)

Following from FF - sorry it's taken me a while to get round to you! It's my first week joining in, I hope you might have time to visit my FF post.
